Louisa May Alcott loved to walk and run long before these activities became popular in our culture.

The 5K Walk/10K Run is a FUNdraiser that highlights her trailblazing spirit, reminding us that the real Alcott story is richer than any fiction!

This year, to help celebrate Orchard House's Centennial as a museum, UTA PIPPIG will once again be Honorary Chair of the event!

“Running was one of the
delights of my early days ...”

        ~Louisa May Alcott

In 2011, Uta Pippig crossed the finish line at our Centennial Walk/Run to the delight of her supporters -- young, old, and every age in-between!  This year, Orchard House Executive Director Jan Turnquist will walk and run as "Louisa," as she has for the past six years.

Jan has also done her one-woman interactive Alcott performances for audiences ranging from young readers to Former First Ladies of the United States.  Says Jan, "One of my most important roles is working to save Orchard House!"

Tremendous progress has been made during the first two multi-million dollar phases of the Preservation Project, but still awaiting attention are:

  • conservation of precious Alcott family artifacts
  • updating of plumbing/septic, fire suppression, and security systems
  • a collections care and storage facility

as well as ...

  • restoration of the historic landscape
  • creation of a scholarly research library
  • upgrade of our website
  • creation of distance learning opportunities

Please help us continue to preserve and promote
the Alcott legacy in our next century!
